As part of the Business and Event Tourism Cooperation Network, a new digital solution, D-Badge, has been developed to make the participant experience more convenient while reducing the environmental impact of events. D-Badge is a step towards more modern and sustainable event organisation, offering an alternative to traditional single-use participant badges and name tags.
Fewer Single-Use Materials, Greater Sustainability
Event organisers often use plastic or paper participant badges, plastic holders, lanyards and other materials that are no longer needed once the event is over. At large-scale events, this can result in significant resource consumption and waste.
D-Badge offers a digital alternative, enabling key participant and event information to be provided in digital format. This reduces the need for physical participant badges and other single-use materials while maintaining the functionality required for events.
This not only means lower material consumption, but also gives event organisers an opportunity to rethink established processes and introduce more environmentally friendly solutions.
More Convenient for Organisers, More Convenient for Participants
The advantage of D-Badge lies not only in its sustainable approach, but also in its digital format. Today’s event participants increasingly expect to be able to access and use information on their smartphones rather than carrying paper documents or physical badges.
A digital solution reduces the need for printing and preparing physical materials, while making information more accessible and easier to update. This is particularly relevant for conferences, business forums, exhibitions and other professional events where participant numbers can be high and event information may change frequently.
Using D-Badge allows event organisers to reconsider which traditional physical materials are truly necessary and which can be replaced by digital solutions.
A Sustainable Event Starts with Small Choices
Organising a sustainable event is not only about major infrastructure or energy-efficiency solutions. Everyday choices also matter – what materials are used, how much is printed, what happens to event materials after the event, and whether single-use items are actually necessary.
This is where D-Badge can contribute to change, helping event organisers and participants develop a more responsible approach to event organisation and resource use.
By replacing single-use participant badges and providing as much information as possible digitally, D-Badge represents a practical step towards more resource-efficient and sustainable event organisation.
A D-Badge presentation for industry representatives and other interested parties is planned soon, providing an opportunity to learn more about the new product and its potential. Following the presentation, D-Badge will be tested in a real event environment to assess its practical application and further develop the solution in line with the needs of the industry.
